Proseminar Fall 2024
The Institute offers two Proseminars in Theoretical Physics during the Fall Semester 2024. The number of participants is limited, and places will be assigned on a "first come first serve" basis.
Registration and topic assignment
All Master and Bachelor students (sixth semester) will be informed by email from the studies secretary beginning September 10, 2024.
If you are interested in taking a proseminar in HS24, please register before Friday September 20, 2024 (before noon).
*********************************************************************************************************
The assignment of the individual proseminar topics to the registered participants will take place in two different meetings on
- Monday September 23, 2024, 13:00
Universality and low-energy effective theories (by Nicolò Defenu)
- Monday September 23, 2024, 10:00
The physics of electroweak symmetry breaking (by Charalampos Anastasiou)
The registered students will be contacted with more details by the proseminar lecturer.
Format
The student prepares a presentation of around, but not more than, one hour duration, on a specific topic assigned in advance. A tutor from the Institute of Theoretical Physics will provide literature and give a feedback on the student's progress. Students keep the tutor informed about their work in weekly meetings, starting (at least) 3 weeks before the date of the final presentation.
Requirements for passing the module
- The student gives a pedagogical talk on the assigned topic, demonstrating a firm understanding of the subject. The presentation is
shown to the tutor a week in advance.
- A written scientific report in english is handed in 4 weeks after the presentation. This report covers the presented material.
- The presence of the student is required in at least 80% of sessions.
